Food Service Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY
The Food Services Manager will solely be responsible for the Camp Imadene Food Services Department. The individual will lead and manage the planning of menus, ordering food, and delivering enjoyable, nutritious, creative, and economical meals for all camp programs and the guest group season. This person ensures the kitchen and dining room are maintained and equipped to a high professional standard.
The Food Service Manager will create a safe and enjoyable work environment where volunteers and staff can successfully serve in the kitchen at Camp Imadene. This position will assist the Executive Director in hiring kitchen summer staff and will be responsible for recruiting volunteer helpers during the summer and shoulder season while ensuring that all workers receive appropriate training.
The Food Service Manager will help facilitate the spiritual growth of staff and volunteers in partnership with the camp leadership team and will encourage the kitchen department to promote the camp’s values consistently.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Executive Director has overall responsibility for all activities on-site at Camp Imadene. As an employee, the Food Services Manager is directly responsible to the Executive Director.
DETAILS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee Menu Delivery

Responsible for preparing meals for upwards of 300 persons while offering a variety of nutritious options (including accommodating dietary restrictions)

Responsible for preparing healthy, cost-effective and nutritious meals year-round. This includes planning menus efficiently, preparing food, making special diet preparations, and ensuring proper storage of food

Ensure quality control of all meals and presentations

Complete all food orders for upcoming events, and maintain necessary inventories

Manage various ‘Groceries’ budget lines

Cook meals as assigned
Oversee Operations of Dining Room, Kitchens, and Food Storage Areas

Comply with all Health and Safety standards, proper food-handling techniques, and Camp Imadene standards (e.g. Island Health, FoodSafe, WHMIS, BCCA Accreditation, etc.)

Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization in all areas

Ensure operation and maintenance of all food service-related equipment

Suggest items necessary for purchase or replacement to Executive Director

Manage various ‘Kitchen Supplies’ budget lines

Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are set and followed by all
Organize, Lead, and Train Kitchen Teams and Individuals

Help with recruiting Kitchen volunteers

Hire and manage all Guest Group Food Service Assistants

Train all Kitchen team members, and ensure standards are maintained

Lead Kitchen team meetings as necessary

Be present, work alongside, lead, serve, and coach as required

Participate in Staff Meetings as needed

3. Experience, Training, and Education:

Canadian Food Safe Certification II

A high level of comfort with computer software programs

A current criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector search, is required
4. Knowledge and Abilities:

Ability to multi-task in a very busy work environment

Ability to communicate orally and in writing

Ability to develop and provide concise and clear reports in a timely fashion

Ability to set priorities and remain focused and on task
REMUNERATION AND START DATE
The Food Service Manager job is a full-time salaried position that will commence on April 3, 2023.
This position has the option for creative scheduling during the non-peak season (November 1 to March 1).
Living arrangements are available onsite during the summer months, and while providing food service for guest groups, however, it is not suitable as a primary residence or for families with children or pets.
